Privacy Policy
Draft pending legal review. This policy describes the system as designed. Have a qualified attorney review it before Teylo accepts paying customers, particularly for CCPA/CPRA and GDPR obligations.
The short version
Teylo keeps what you tell it, because remembering is the product. It does not sell your data, does not share it for advertising, and does not use your conversations to train third-party models. You can export or delete everything at any time.
What is collected
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your phone number | It is your account identifier. Teylo has no usernames or passwords. |
| Text messages you send and receive | To hold the conversation and to remember it later. |
| Call audio and transcripts | Audio is processed in real time to generate replies. Transcripts and summaries are retained; raw call audio is not stored after the call ends. |
| Things you tell Teylo about your life | People, projects, plans, preferences and events, so companions have continuity rather than starting over each time. |
| Delivery and usage records | Message delivery status, call duration and service costs, for billing and support. |
| Payment details | Handled entirely by Stripe. Teylo never receives or stores your card number. |
Teylo does not collect location data, does not read your contacts, and has no app on your phone.
Information about other people
Conversations naturally include other people — friends, family, colleagues. Teylo stores what you say about them so companions can follow your life. That information is only ever used inside your own account. It is never used to build a profile of that person, never linked to them if they are also a Teylo user, and never shown to anyone else.
How the four companions share information
The companions share a general picture of your life, so you do not have to repeat yourself to each of them. That is deliberate.
Some things stay private to one companion. If you tell a companion something is between the two of you, it is kept private to that relationship and is not available to the others. This is enforced in the software itself, not by asking the model nicely.
Who else sees your data
Teylo uses service providers to operate. They process data on Teylo's instructions only:
- Twilio — delivers text messages and phone calls.
- OpenAI — generates conversational responses. Sent through the business API, which is not used to train their models.
- Speech providers — convert speech to text and generate companion voices during calls.
- Microsoft Azure — hosting and encrypted database storage.
- Stripe — payment processing.
Teylo does not sell personal information, does not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and does not disclose it to anyone else except where legally required, and then only what is required.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Secrets are held in a managed key vault. Access to production data is restricted and logged. Phone numbers are redacted from routine application logs. Each user's data is isolated, and that isolation is verified by automated tests.
How long data is kept
Conversation history and memory are kept for as long as your account exists, because continuity is the point of the service. Raw call audio is not retained after a call. Operational logs are kept for a limited period for debugging and abuse prevention.
Ending your trial or subscription does not delete your history. If you come back months later, your companions still know you. If you would rather they did not, ask for deletion.
Your choices
- Stop messages — reply STOP to any Teylo number. START resumes.
- Stop proactive contact — tell any companion to stop messaging you first, or not to call. The preference is stored and honoured.
- Export your data — email support@teylo.app and you will receive a machine-readable copy.
- Delete your data — email support@teylo.app. Deletion removes your account, conversations and memory. Limited billing records are retained where law requires.
- Correct something — tell a companion. Corrections supersede what was stored before.
Because a phone number is the account identifier, requests that involve exporting or deleting data may require additional verification before they are carried out, particularly if the number has been inactive for a long period.
Children
Teylo is for adults 18 and over and is not directed at children. If it emerges that a minor has created an account, it will be deleted.
