You probably already have ChatGPT. This page is about what each one is shaped around, not which is cleverer, because ChatGPT is cleverer.
This is the comparison most people are actually making, and it is not a fair fight in the direction you would expect. ChatGPT is a better writer than any of the four. It is a better researcher, a better editor, a better cook, and it will do your taxes. If what you want is an answer, close this page and go and ask it.
What follows is about something narrower: what each of these two is built around, and why that produces a different thing to reach for.
A prompt box is a request for a task. It sits there with a cursor in it waiting for you to have something to ask, and that framing is the whole design: you arrive with a job, the job gets done, you leave. It is very good at that.
Teylo has no box. There are four numbers in your contacts, and the thing you send them does not have to be a question, a request, or interesting. Most of what people send is none of the three. That is not a capability ChatGPT lacks. It is a different shape of thing, and the shape is the product.
The difference that follows from that is the one in the table above: ChatGPT never goes first. It cannot. It is a thing you open, and an assistant that messaged forty million people unprompted would be a catastrophe rather than a feature. Teylo's four follow up on what you already told them, which is a smaller thing than it sounds and the whole point of it: the overhead this product exists to remove is the overhead of starting.
The short version: ChatGPT is for when you have a question. Teylo is for when you don't.
You want to be asked, not to have to ask. ChatGPT waits with a cursor in it. Teylo's four follow up on what you already told them, so the thing you were dreading gets asked about on the day rather than whenever you next think to open something.
The thing you want to say is not a question. A prompt box makes you turn a feeling into a request before you can send it. A text thread does not, which is most of the reason people text a person and not an assistant.
You want it where everyone else already is. Four numbers in your contacts, in the same Messages app as your sister and your group chat. Nothing to open, nothing to install, and no separate place you have to remember to go.
You want to be remembered without managing it. They keep what you told them across months and across all four, and you never curate a project, a memory list or a custom instruction to make it happen.
Anything with a task in it. Writing, code, research, planning, summarising, arguing with a spreadsheet. This is not close, and it is not going to get closer. Teylo's four are not assistants and do not try to be.
You want one thing, not four. ChatGPT is a single assistant that does everything, and for most people that is genuinely simpler than keeping four numbers in a phone and picking between them.
You already pay for it. If ChatGPT is already on your phone and already on your card, the honest question is whether you want a second thing at all. Plenty of people will not, and that is a reasonable answer rather than one we are going to argue you out of.
Same numbers as everywhere else on the site.
