Teylo keeps what you tell it, because remembering is the product. It does not sell your data, does not share it for advertising, and does not use your conversations to train third-party models. You can export or delete everything at any time.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your phone number | It is your account identifier. Teylo has no usernames or passwords. |
| Text messages you send and receive | To hold the conversation and to remember it later. |
| Call transcripts | Audio is converted to text in real time so a companion can reply, and the audio itself is not retained — it is processed and discarded. The written transcript is kept, on the same basis as your text messages, so companions remember the conversation and so we can investigate anything that goes wrong. If we ever start retaining call audio we will tell you before it happens, and you will hear it said at the start of a call before anything is kept. |
| Things you tell Teylo about your life | People, projects, plans, preferences and events, so companions have continuity rather than starting over each time. |
| Delivery and usage records | Message delivery status, call duration and service costs, for billing and support. |
| Payment details | Handled entirely by Stripe. Teylo never receives or stores your card number. |
Teylo does not collect location data, does not read your contacts, and has no app on your phone.
Conversations naturally include other people — friends, family, colleagues. Teylo stores what you say about them so companions can follow your life. That information is only ever used inside your own account. It is never used to build a profile of that person, never linked to them if they are also a Teylo user, and never shown to anyone else.
The companions share a general picture of your life, so you do not have to repeat yourself to each of them. That is deliberate.
Some things stay private to one companion. If you tell a companion something is between the two of you, it is kept private to that relationship and is not available to the others. This is enforced in the software itself, not by asking the model nicely.
Teylo uses service providers to operate. They process data on Teylo's instructions only:
Teylo does not sell personal information, does not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and does not disclose it to anyone else except where legally required, and then only what is required.
Professional advisers — lawyers, accountants and auditors — may see personal information where they need it to advise us, under a duty of confidentiality.
If Teylo is acquired, merged, invested in, or sells all or part of its business, or in an insolvency or bankruptcy, your information may transfer to the acquirer or successor as part of that transaction, along with a prospective buyer's advisers under confidentiality obligations during diligence.
This policy travels with it. Any acquirer takes the data subject to the commitments on this page, and if the new owner wants to use your information in a way this policy does not permit, you will be told before it happens and given the chance to delete everything first.
No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers are disclosed only to the service providers listed above that deliver messages and calls on Teylo's behalf, and only for that purpose. Teylo does not sell, rent or trade phone numbers, and sends no marketing, promotional or third-party content.
Teylo never messages a number that has not messaged Teylo first. Message frequency varies and depends on your own conversation: companions reply when you write, and send occasional follow-ups about topics you raised yourself. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any Teylo number to opt out, or HELP for help. The full consent disclosure is at teylo.app/sms-opt-in-companions for the companion numbers and teylo.app/sms-opt-in-account for account and billing notices.
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Secrets are held in a managed key vault. Access to production data is restricted and logged. Phone numbers are redacted from routine application logs. Each user's data is isolated, and that isolation is verified by automated tests.
Conversation history and memory are kept for as long as your account exists, because continuity is the point of the service. Call recordings and their transcripts are kept on the same basis, and are deleted when you ask us to delete everything. Operational logs are kept for a limited period for debugging and abuse prevention.
Ending your trial or subscription does not delete your history. If you come back months later, your companions still know you. If you would rather they did not, ask for deletion.
Because a phone number is the account identifier, requests that involve exporting or deleting data may require additional verification before they are carried out, particularly if the number has been inactive for a long period.
If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Utah, Iowa, Delaware, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the rights below. Most of them are things Teylo already does for everyone, regardless of where they live.
To exercise any of them, email support@teylo.app from the address linked to your account, or text any companion. Because a phone number is the account identifier, we may need to verify that the request is really coming from the owner of that number before we act on it — particularly for export and deletion, and particularly if the number has been inactive for a long time. You may use an authorised agent, in which case we may ask for proof that you authorised them.
Global Privacy Control. We honour GPC signals as valid opt-out requests where applicable law requires it. Since Teylo does not sell or share personal information or run targeted advertising, a GPC signal does not change how your data is handled — there is nothing for it to switch off.
Sensitive information. People tell their friends things that privacy law treats as sensitive — health, beliefs, relationships, sexuality. Teylo stores what you choose to tell it so that companions have continuity. We do not use any of it to infer characteristics about you, to build a profile, or for any purpose beyond the conversation you are having. The contents of your messages are not treated as sensitive personal information under the CCPA for the narrow reason that Teylo is their intended recipient, but we handle them as if they were.
The same information as the table at the top of this page, mapped to the statutory categories in the California Consumer Privacy Act (Cal. Civ. Code §1798.140). This describes the last twelve months.
| What it is | CCPA category | Disclosed to | Sold or shared |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your phone number | Identifiers | Twilio, Microsoft Azure, Stripe | No |
| Messages you send and receive, and call transcripts | Electronic network activity; the contents of communications for which Teylo is the intended recipient | OpenAI, speech providers, Microsoft Azure | No |
| What you tell Teylo about your life | Whichever categories you choose to mention, which may include characteristics protected under state or federal law | OpenAI, Microsoft Azure | No |
| Delivery, call duration and usage records | Electronic network activity; commercial information | Twilio, Microsoft Azure | No |
| Payment details | Commercial information (Teylo never receives your card number) | Stripe | No |
Teylo has never sold or shared personal information, in any sense those words carry under state privacy law, and has no plans to. We do not attempt to re-identify anything we have de-identified.
California Shine the Light. Under Civil Code §1798.83, California residents may ask which personal information we disclosed to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. We disclose none, to anyone, ever. Email support@teylo.app with "Shine the Light Request" if you would like that confirmed in writing.
Teylo is operated from the United States and its service providers may process data in other countries. If you use Teylo from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States, where privacy law may differ from your own.
Teylo is for adults 18 and over and is not directed at children. If it emerges that a minor has created an account, it will be deleted. Companion services of this kind may not be suitable for some minors, which is part of why the service is restricted to adults.
This policy may be updated. Material changes will be communicated by text message or on this page before taking effect.
